Fanatics Betting and Gaming has launched its Fanatics Sportsbook in the vital US state of New York.

The operator has been taking over PointsBet’s US operations as part of the US$225m deal it struck last summer with the Australia and Canada-focused company.

After recent launches in Indiana and Michigan took Fanatics’ presence in the US to 14 states, New York is seen as a crucial addition.

The Empire State is the US’ biggest for sports betting, with operators generating a record $211.5m GGR in January – the second successive monthly record.

Sports betting handle has also followed suit.

Fanatics revealed in October that it had been cleared for takeover of PointsBet's New York operations by the state’s Gaming Commission but did not put a timeframe on its go-live date with regulatory processes still ongoing.
