Jersey Enterprise ran an Open for Business lunch for leading businessmen at the Dorchester Hotel, London, yesterday when about 100 guests were entertained to lunch prepared by master chef Shaun Rankin, using Jersey-sourced produce.

The Jersey Gambling Commission hosted a table, under chairman Graham White. Guests heard a welcome from Jersey Minister for Economic Development Alan MacLean who said that the island is very much ‘open for business.’ “It signals emphatically our intention to attract inward business. We are a business-friendly jurisdiction. To attract wealth creators we need to ensure that there are no barriers to entry.” MacLean pointed out that as the world entered a recession, Jersey had no debt and £2bn in assets, which has kept it well insulated against the effects of the downturn.

Graham White, asked by iNTERGAMINGi about the ongoing ‘White Listing’ problems which are hampering the Gaming Commission’s ability to attract i-gaming to Jersey, said: “Discussions with the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport have been revitalised recently. It is by no means a lost cause and we are determined to overcome the monopoly situation which exists currently. That inequality represents a loss of income to the States of Jersey.”
