Lawmakers in the US state of Colorado are planning to revive stalled proposals to authorise intrastate internet poker, Colorado attorney general John Suthers has said.

Colorado

Colorado is closely watching the progress of online gambling in nearby Nevada, as well as in Delaware and New Jersey, the two other states to have to date legalised real-money internet gaming in one form or another.

An online poker bill was drafted in 2013 but not introduced. However, for real-money online gaming to be possible, the Colorado constitution will reportedly need to be amended first.

Answering questions from the Colorado Division of Gaming, Suthers said: “Under Colorado law, a bet is placed where the person placing the bet is located,” meaning that only those located within the state’s borders would be allowed to gamble – as is the case in Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey.

At present, there are around 40 casinos and pari-mutuel facilities in the state and a dozen card rooms with a total of 110 poker tables.
