As part of the new relationship, Sportradar will provide its sports data for academic and scientific purposes, which will be used to contribute to the student’s education, theses and scientific research.

Dr Malte Siegle, head of Sportradar’s university and research programme, said: “It is our goal to support students’ development using our data to help contribute to their research and education. As part of our University programme, we are pleased to form a relationship with Birkbeck, as we continue to grow our partnerships with universities to inspire the next generation of data professionals.”

Dr Alessandro Provetti, director of BIDA, added: “Sports data analytics is becoming increasingly important today, as even casual watchers of sport events have noticed. Also, esports are starting to attract large audiences. With our MSc programmes in data science and sport management, Birkbeck is well-placed to respond and contribute to innovation in this field. I believe that we have found a perfect partner in Sportradar to facilitate our research and introduce students to this fascinating subject.”

The new partnership will expand the Sportradar university programme. A key part of the organisation’s innovation arm, it was established to support the next generation of students and universities within the data and technology space.

A total of 12 universities across eight different countries are currently part of the programme, which includes a range of challenge events, hackathons and other similar opportunities where students are provided the chance to utilise and learn from the company’s state of the art data feeds and data visualisation services.
