The US Jockey Club has announced the launch of two online games, which combine social gaming and fantasy sports.
Thoroughbred World is an asset management-type game that focuses on the breeding, owning, and training of horses, while Major League Horse Racing is based on fantasy league games.
The games were recommendations of a report commissioned by the organisation commissioned last year and it is hoped they will replicate the success of free-play online poker sites in attracting new players.
Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter will market the games through players’ activity, using ‘likes’ and hashtags.
The Jockey Club said that since both games were launched unofficially last week, Major League Horse Racing has attracted 1,200 players, with Thoroughbred World attracting 2,000 players.
