Switzerland-based Casino Interlaken, owned by Casinos Austria International, has been permitted to offer casino igaming in the country.
The established Swiss land-based casino received its first online gambling licence from the Swiss gambling regulator the Eidgenössische Spielbankenkommission.
The regulator previously allowed Casino Interlaken a licence later in 2019, but it had to be cleared by the country’s Federal Council. The company now joins several of its competitors, including Casino Zürichsee, Grand Casino Baden, Casino Davos and Grand Casino Luzern in being granted official permission to offer online gambling services.
Despite the several legal providers on offer, Switzerland is dealing with several unlicensed companies in the market. The country has come down hard on those companies, blocking 35 websites to date.
There are an estimated 145 companies now permitted to work in the Swiss igaming industry with several other major European brands opening up in the market.
