PokerStars and Atlantic City's Resorts Casino Hotel have announced an agreement to offer online gaming in New Jersey, subject to receiving a licence.

New Jersey legalised online gambling in February and has set a deadline of Sunday, July 7, for notification of operators’ intention to apply for a licence. Online operators in the Garden State are required to have, or to form a partnership with, a land-based operation.

PokerStars’ parent company, the Isle of Man-based Rational Group, had hoped to buy the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in Atlantic City but the deal collapsed earlier this year.

Ahead of the Sunday deadline, all 12 of New Jersey’s casinos – all based in Atlantic City – have declared an intention to seek an online gaming licence.

Resorts, Atlantic City’s first casino, was opened in 1978. It is owned by New York investor Morris Bailey and managed by a unit of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.
