The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has revealed that online sports betting generated revenue of US$9.1m in its first month of operations in the Bay State.

That came from a handle of $548.1m for the six online licensees from March 10 – when mobile sports betting went live in the state – until the end of the month, which produced taxable revenue of $45.6m.
The six online operators in Massachusetts enjoyed a 10.74 per cent revenue hold, with DraftKings and FanDuel leading the way for handle and revenue.
Of the three online operators tethered to a retail offering in Massachusetts, BetMGM – linked to MGM Springfield – pulled in the most revenue and handle at $45.3m and $7.4m respectively, the online sportsbook therefore contributing $1.5m in taxes.
Overall, Massachusetts’ six online operators and three retail offerings produced taxable sports betting revenue of just over $47m.
The US state’s land-based casinos generated $104.5m in taxable revenue, with the total combined from casino and sports betting for March at $151.6m. The state subsequently took $38.9m in taxes for the month.
