China has lifted its 14-year state-wide ban on foreign-made games consoles in a move that could open huge new markets for manufacturers, reports ft.com.

The original ban was introduced to help stem the rise in popularity of PC, mobile and online gaming in China but has failed to curb a gaming market said to be worth around $14bn a year.
Popular consoles from manufacturers including Sony and Microsoft – many of whose products are produced in China – can now be sold legitimately, a move that will in turn stymie a vibrant black market in smuggled consoles.
