Playtech has insisted that Caliplay remains a “highly valued customer” after the company launched legal proceedings against Playtech.

Caliplay, the joint venture between Mexican operator Caliplay and Playtech, wants to end a partnership between the two companies, citing an impact on its regulated business in Mexico.

The legal proceedings reference Playtech's Malta and Software subsidiaries.

The Mexican courts accepted responsibility over the claim in late August and ordered Playtech to continue offering software and services to Caliplay until the claim had been resolved.

Caliplay said it is “keen for this matter to be resolved quickly” and is “committed to maintaining a channel of communication with Playtech through which any disputes can be discussed and resolved.”

In a statement on Thursday, however, Playtech said that it “only became aware of the issuance of proceedings today," stating its belief that the partnership has been "extremely productive" for both parties.

It added: “Playtech has not yet had access to the court filings in Mexico and, to the best of its knowledge, has not yet been served with any proceedings. Playtech is therefore only aware of the matters in Caliplay's announcement.

“Once Playtech has had access to Caliplay's court filings and has been able to review the substance of any proceedings, the company will update shareholders further as necessary.”
