Malta’s igaming sector has been the subject of some unfavourable headlines relating to organised crime in the last year or two. INTERGAMINGi asked the Malta Gaming Authority what it was doing about it.

A FORTIFIED outcrop in the southern Mediterranean, Malta has always enjoyed high strategic value. The island may now be a highly evolved financial services hub and home to an established, progressive online gaming regulatory regime but, for a criminal few, bustling Malta remains a temptation.

The island is less than 100km by sea from the Italian island of Sicily while the Italian mainland is another 150km or so further north. It is close to Italy both in nautical and in cultural terms.
