Everyone is agreed that US online betting and casino will generate significant profits in the long run. It’s just that patience is running out and talk of “macro issues” means timing couldn’t have been worse, says Jake Pollard.

THE US online sports betting and gaming industry has been the major market of the past three to four years. Significant momentum was created in 2018 with the repeal of PASPA and it has gone on to dominate all the trade media headlines since then, with the past two years in particular acting as a major booster to sports betting regulation being passed.

Sports wagering, online and in retail, is now legal in some 35 states and covering 30 to 35 per cent of the US adult population. Most recently it has seen two major jurisdictions, New York and Canada’s Ontario province, regulate online sports betting and, for Ontario, online casino.
