IN Europe, there is no unified regulatory framework. While the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) strives for unified laws in regard to online betting and gaming, each country implements and forms its own set of rules and regulations. Each country in Europe also has its own associated culture of gambling. These differences impact the regulatory picture across Europe and is a key challenge to instituting regulations across the board.

However, a common theme is that jurisdictions in Europe that have liberalised online gambling are looking to tighten the reins on operators and ensure fair play. Lawmakers in many jurisdictions are working to foster the right balance between the freedom to play while prioritising gamer safety and preventing gambling addiction and its associated harm. The UK is one of the leaders in that respect, and sets a good example of balanced regulation. The UK regulatory picture is currently very fluid with various government and parliamentary committees working for additional regulations to facilitate a safer experience. It is likely that other European jurisdictions will look to the UK for guidance and as a model to follow.
