Ulrik Bengtsson, president and CEO of Malta-based Swedish gaming company Betsson, is to leave his position with immediate effect. No reasons have been given for his departure.

In a statement, Betsson said: "The board of directors and CEO Ulrik Bengtsson have agreed that [he] shall leave the position as president and CEO of Betsson. Ulrik Bengtsson has chosen to leave his position immediately."

Pontus Lindwall, chairman of the board at Betsson, moves to the position of interim CEO until a permanent replacement has been recruited. Board member Patrick Svensk takes on Lindwall's role as chairman during the interim period.

Lindwall said: "Ulrik Bengtsson has done a good job for Betsson during the five years he has been employed by the group. He has clarified the strategy and implemented significant product launches. On behalf of the board and myself, I would like to thank Ulrik for his efforts."

The search for a new permanent CEO is underway, the company said.
