Efforts by MP Jakayo Mikiwo to create a new gambling law to deal with online and land-based gambling have been thwarted after his proposals were criticised by the Betting Control and Licensing Board regulator.

Kenyan gaming restrictions denied

Midiwo had proposed that all gambling operators would have had to be Kenyan citizens. He also suggested a 20 per cent tax on winnings and wanted to restrict anyone under the age of 25 from gambling.

The BCLB pointed out that a tax on winnings had already been tried and had “posed a challenge” due to “the nature of some of the gaming activities” involved.
