The Swedish Gambling Authority has handed igaming supplier Yggdrasil with an SEK300,000 (£22,508) fine for supplying its services to an unlicensed operator.

The regulator, Spelinspektionen, said it discovered the “serious” violation in January this year when inspecting a number of illegal operators in Sweden.

Yggdrasil took “corrective action” a week later, the regulator said, and has cut ties with the unlicensed company.

The supplier said a breach of contract between a distributor and Yggdrasil caused the supply issue.

But while Spelinspektionen noted that Yggdrasil had complied with the investigation, it said the cooperation “cannot be considered active beyond what is typically expected from a company operating under regulated supervision.”

It added: “The mitigating circumstances do not outweigh the seriousness of the violation in such a way that it can be deemed minor or excusable."

The regulator therefore assessed that the violation was not "not minor or excusable," adding: "The Swedish Gambling Authority also assesses that it is not unreasonable to impose a sanction fee.”
