UK bookmaker William Hill has reported significant progress in the online sector, which has offset a tougher time for land-based betting shops and secured a decent financial start to the year.
According to sales reports, net revenue for the 13 weeks up until March increased by over one per cent overall, with pre-exceptional operating profit up a total of three per cent owing to the business’ strong online performance.
Net revenues for land-based betting shops were down four per cent and despite gaming machine turnover rising by nine per cent the shops’ counter gross win percentage fell by 11 per cent as customers’ bets performed better than last year.
This was, however, offset by the performance of William Hill Online, which increased new accounts by 31 per cent, lifting both net revenue by 25 per cent and total operating profits by 51 per cent.
