The UK’s Gambling Commission is consulting over a new national strategy to reduce gambling harms.

The current National Responsible Gambling Strategy comes to an end in March 2019 and the UKGC says it wants to work together with Government, public health, the charitable sector and gambling businesses in order to make “real progress” on the issues.

“We want as many people and organisations as possible to have a voice in shaping the strategy and the arrangements needed to deliver it,” the UKGC stated.

Views are being sought on the five proposed priority areas for action over the life of the strategy: research to inform action; prevention; treatment; evaluation; and collaboration with gambling businesses.

The UKGC is also conducting a formal consultation concerning licence conditions and codes of practice, with proposed amendments to the requirement for gambling firms to contribute to research, prevention and treatment, and associated arrangements needed to deliver the strategy.

An amendment proposed to LCCP is that licensee contributions under this provision are made to one or more organisations approved by the UKGC, with the intention of providing clarity over compliance.
