Total gross gambling yield online for UK operators decreased two per cent in the latest year-on-year readings, but land-based operations enjoyed a resurgence.

The UK Gambling Commission says online total GGY in the third quarter of the current financial year was £1.2bn, a two per cent drop from Q3 the previous year.

However, land-based GGY increased five per cent to £560m between Q3 2021 to 2022 and the latest quarter.

The average number of monthly active accounts increased 13 per cent between the two periods, while the overall number of total bets and/or spins jumped eight per cent year-on-year.

Slots GGY rose to £582m in the latest data, an upturn of two per cent, but the average session length decreased two minutes year-on-year to 17 minutes.

A UKGC statement read: “We continue to expect vigilance from operators as consumers are impacted in different ways by the current economic environment.

“Many people will feel vulnerable as they face further uncertainty about their personal or financial circumstances.”
