German online lottery provider Zeal Network, has reported a good start to 2021.

The first quarter shows billings up 17 per cent to €163.3m, with nearly all of it coming from Germany itself. Revenue was up 19 per cent to €22.6m, again, most of it from Germany.
The company reported that the environment for lotteries in Germany during the first quarter of 2021 was "comparatively weak at just €5.7 million," but said that despite the market environment it had gained 156,000 new registered customers in the Germany segment, compared with 206,000 in 2020.
Zeal said the increase in acquisition costs per new registered customer of €33.48, compared with €26.00 the previous year, was a consequence of its enhanced marketing strategy.
"Even though customer acquisition is naturally more difficult in low jackpot phases, such as the first quarter of 2021, correspondingly higher costs per lead are justified by the fact that it is precisely those lottery players won during these periods who generally exhibit higher long-term activity and thus a better customer lifetime value. As a result, the payback periods of new customers are only slightly longer," the company stated.
