The introduction of regulated online poker in Portugal looks set to be delayed until at least November as the country considers two proposals, reports pokernews.com.
Portugal passed online gaming legislation in 2015 but reports have surfaced that the country will hold off launching regulated online poker until at least November.
Betclic.pt has, to date, been the only the recipient of a licence to offer regulated online games, going live with a sports betting offering in May.
Although regulator SRIJ indicated that more licences would “soon follow” none have been issued in the months since.
The reasons for the delay in poker licences are believed to be due to the issue of shared liquidity.
Last week, the Portuguese players association, ANAon, said that two proposals were being considered by the SRIJ, including one that would permit shared liquidity.
Any proposals backed by the SRIJ must then be submitted to the European Commission, which then will launch a three-month consultation period.
