Real-money online gambling goes live in the US state of New Jersey today as a five-day “soft launch” begins, ahead of a full launch on Tuesday, November 26.

With both bettors and operators required to be based in the state, regulators are hopeful that the move will not only bring in significant taxable revenues but also boost Atlantic City’s ailing casino scene.
The state will take 15 per cent in tax from each online bet, near double the rate levied on bricks and mortar casinos, while the land-based venues will also see a cut of the online income.
Following the launches in Nevada and Delaware, New Jersey becomes the most populous state yet to offer its residents online gambling.
