Mixi’s proposed takeover of gambling operator PointsBet has moved a step closer after the Australian government cleared the move.

A PointsBet statement said the Australian Commonwealth Government has “no objection” to the acquisition of PointsBet by the Japanese company – which has an Australian subsidiary and is looking to build its presence there.
PointsBet did not provide an update on the takeover offer from Betr Entertainment, formerly BlueBet, but its last statement said it remained in a process of due diligence with the company.
Amid PointsBet’s presence in Ontario, Canada, Mixi’s offer still needs to be approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of the AGCO which oversees the market’s development.
Mixi and Betr have both made two offers for PointsBet.
