Lowden takes up his new role on January 1, 2019, becoming chairman of the Huntsworth board and its nomination committee as of March 6, 2019.

The additional commitments mean that Lowden has informed William Hill of his decision to step down as of March 4, 2019.

William Hill chairman Roger Devlin said: "On behalf of the William Hill board, I would like to thank David and acknowledge his contribution and service to the Board over the last seven years, in particular his chairmanship of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

“David has been a valued member of the Board and I am particularly grateful for his counsel and support since I took on the role of chairman."
