The Netherlands’ gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit has updated its Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (Prevention) Act.

One of the key changes to be implemented is a step-by-step guide to investigating the source of a player’s resources.

The KSA is updating the Act as the Dutch gaming market matures, with the Act introduced alongside the launch of the online market in 2021.

The regulator said that before finalising the updated guidelines, it asked for industry opinions through a consultation with the Dutch Financial Intelligence Unit and other relevant stakeholders.

“This consultation revealed, among other things, that the research obligations in the context of the prevention of gambling addiction and WWFT client research were sometimes too intertwined, which caused confusion. This has been resolved in the now published version,” the KSA said.
