The lengthy discussions between Jersey and the UK Department of Culture Media and Sport over white listing are apparently going nowhere.

Jersey Jersey

The British government minister John Penrose, despite promises to consider opening up the white list to enable Jersey to be recognised in the UK, has not yet done so.

Jersey sought to have equal recognition as the other UK dependencies, Alderney and the Isle of Man. The delay will have cost Jersey heavily in missed opportunities for licence applications.

The matter may now rest with the incoming Council of Ministers in Jersey, following the recent elections. Meanwhile, Jason Lane, CEO of the Jersey Gambling Commission confirmed that the JGC is preparing for the island jurisdiction's new law, which should come into force in 2012.  It is also developing inter-agency agreements with European regulators.

"Finally, we will continue to discuss both with our government and the UK regulator the proposed changes in the UK Act so that Jersey-based businesses are afforded fair and reasonable access to that market along the same lines as the other crown dependencies."

The comment disguises what is rumoured to be fury within the Jersey jurisdiction that the DCMS is not operating a level playing field for the island alongside the other offshore jurisdictions which have access to the lucrative UK market.
