The Chilean gambling regulator has warned that its logo is being used to advertise illegal online gaming operators.

The Superintendence of Gaming Casinos (SCJ) said it has found social media posts that claim their operations have been authorised.

It has reported the violations to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether the companies in question have committed criminal offenses.

The SCJ noted that a bill regulating online betting and gaming is still making its way through Congress and, as such, the vertical remains illegal.

“These platforms, operating outside the legal framework, do so without paying taxes, without ensuring transparency in their outcomes, without fraud protection mechanisms, without responsible gambling policies or protection for minors, and without complying with the legal obligations established by the Financial Analysis Unit (UAF) for the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Chile,” the regulator said.

“Lastly, the SCJ urges people not to participate in online betting platforms, as doing so exposes users to potential non-compliance and scams, such as unawarded prizes or unfulfilled promised conditions.”
