The Greek ministry of finance has targeted online gambling in an effort to meet the conditions for its next bailout instalment.

Yanis Varoufakis, finance minister for Syriza, has outlined several proposals to boost tax revenue, one of which is through the selling of Greek national licences to foreign online gambling operators. Varoufakis envisages each five-year contract to be worth around €3m, with the value of tax revenues from online gambling estimated to be worth around €500m a year to the state.
Tax rates would remain the same for online gambling operators, however those licensed would have to serve the Greek betting consumers with approved payment systems controlled by the Greek Central Bank.
