New York State senator Joseph Addabbo has relaunched his campaign to regulate online casino.

Senate Bill S8185 was referred to the state Senate’s Racing, Wagering and Gaming Committee on Thursday.

The bill, as reported by USBets, is similar in stature to Addabbo’s 2023 attempt to legalise igaming.

It proposes, among other terms, a 30.5 per cent tax rate on gross gaming revenue and a US$2m licence fee.

However, legislation for ilottery is new to the bill this year.

Addabbo told the Lawyers, Lines and Money podcast this week that 2024 should be the year for igaming in New York “given the fiscal situation of the state.”

He was reiterating the point he made in a recent opinion piece for City & State New York, where he said igaming could plug a “looming budget deficit of great proportions.”

Addabbo and Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow jointly said igaming revenues would go “above and beyond” the Empire State’s “tremendous” mobile sports betting success, predicting online casino would bring in $1bn in annual revenue.
