The Dutch gambling regulator has issued seven warnings over breaches of the ban on untargeted advertising, four of which related to Formula One sports betting.

Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) said the four operators in question made clear references to world champion Max Verstappen despite not using his image.
The KSA said the brands “hinted at Verstappen using puns and visual elements.”
“The KSA takes these kinds of creative attempts to circumvent the role model ban very seriously,” it said. “In general, it is not permitted to include references to a role model in any way, directly or indirectly.”
Another warning was issued after the conclusion of another motorsport event. An operator sponsored a car during the event, with the car then seen in public after it had finished.
“Car advertising is a form of untargeted advertising and is prohibited,” the regulator said. “The KSA addressed the provider about this, after which it immediately agreed with the collaboration partner that the car would only be seen during the races and at the event locations.”
A fifth warning related to a physical arcade which had been “purchased via a partner” and could be seen on digital screens in a gym – which “specifically targets” young people and young adults.
The final warning was issued because an operator advertised on its website with an actor and cartoon and animation figures.
“The KSA believes that these are role models and, moreover, cartoon and animation figures that primarily appeal to a young target group,” it said.
“ If parties cross the line again after a warning, a heavier sanction may follow. Where boundaries are deliberately and consciously sought, the Gaming Authority will immediately take enforcement action.
“Enforcement of the advertising rules is one of the main priorities of the KSA's supervisory agenda in 2025 and the KSA will provide more guidance in this area later this year.”
