US growth of 82 per cent to £598m ($700m) during the quarter was largely responsible.

Flutter’s North American operator FanDuel remained the top sportsbook operator in Q3 with a 42 per cent share of the online market.

However, Flutter’s acquisition of Sisal, the Italian igaming operator, in August, also fuelled the increase.

In the UK and Ireland, revenue grew three per cent year-on-year to £509m, reflecting Flutter’s January deal to add bingo brand Tombola to its portfolio. Although, online revenues in the UK and Ireland did better than retail revenue in the territories, with online growing four per cent to £443m but retail dropping three per cent to £66m.

Peter Jackson, chief executive of Flutter, said: “Flutter delivered a strong Q3 performance with pro forma growth of 11 per cent in both revenue and average monthly players.

“Our US division is now our largest and generated $700m in revenue, up 82 per cent. Good growth in our 'consolidate and invest' International markets and the acquisition of Sisal in August helped drive ex-US revenues.

“We are really pleased with our performance in our US division since the start of the NFL in September where we are now averaging over 1m players on a regular NFL Sunday.

“In addition, we are seeing an increase in customer retention rates as our parlay products continue to grow in popularity, boosted by the start of the NBA season. The ongoing momentum in our US division has led to an upgrade to our outlook for the year, underpinning our confidence that we will be profitable for 2023.”

In the rest of the world, Flutter’s Australian revenues dropped 21 per cent year-on-year to £319m.

However, international revenue was up overall by 43 per cent to £466m from £299m in Q3 2021.
