The Dutch Gambling Authority says the Netherlands’ gambling market is “levelling off” but still “developing as expected” after gross gaming revenue grew less strongly in the latest reporting period.

GGR grew by eight per cent from January to August this year, down from growth of 33 per cent from August 2022 to January.
René Jansen, chairman of Kansspelautoriteit, said: “The continued growth ensures increasing responsibility among providers. The KSA continues to strictly monitor that Dutch players can gamble in a safe market, with sufficient attention to addiction prevention and insight into possible problematic gaming behaviour.
“Duty of care and addiction prevention are a crucial part of our supervision.”
The KSA said its target of eight in 10 players playing via legal routes is still being met, with 93 per cent of players playing with licensed operators at the latest count – an increase of one per cent compared to the previous six months.
A total of 98 per cent of new players whose gaming activity only began after the market opened in late 2021 play via legal providers, the regulator added.
The number of people self-excluding via Cruks has also passed 50,000, the KSA said, up from 48,000 in August.
As for the number of players in the Dutch market, the KSA estimates that 670,000 Dutch people have played online gaming in the past six months – 4.7 per cent of the population – and an average of 417,000 Dutch people play online gaming per month.
