At the Annual Gaming Industry Event hosted by law firm Kalff Katz & Franssen in Amsterdam on January 30, delegates heard that the remote gaming licensing process in the Netherlands is still more than a year from beginning.

Speaking at the event, Michel Groothuizen, director general of sanctions and prevention policy for the Dutch ministry of security and justice, characterised the current period as “the calm before the storm,” with the ministry now due to issue its response to the 600-question critique of the draft remote gaming bill, which was published in November.

Taking account of all the regulatory hurdles the legislation is likely to face, Groothuizen predicted that licensing would not begin before the middle of 2016.
