The New Jersey gambling regulator has hit operator DraftKings with a US$100,000 fine for its “unacceptable conduct” in misreporting sports betting data.

As reported by the Associated Press, the error led to inaccurate sports betting tax returns being published that had to be corrected.

DraftKings inflated the amount of money wagered on parlay bets, which caused Resorts Digital, the online arm of Resorts casino in the Garden State, to misrepresent its true sports betting tax returns for December 2023 and January and February 2024.

In a letter to DraftKings on June 16, Mary Jo Flaherty, acting director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement said: “These types of gross errors and failures cannot be tolerated in the New Jersey gaming regulatory system.”

A DraftKings statement admitted the error and said it has implemented “additional controls” to avoid the issue again including training staff and incorporating additional monitoring.

DraftKings said it values its relationship with New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement and is “committed to ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines.”
