Three long-serving gaming industry professionals have come together to form a start-up looking to “propel a new wave of innovation."

Defy the Odds

Kelly Kehn, Sue Schneider and Paris Smith’s Defy the Odds is “centred on the belief that fresh perspectives and bold ideas will define the future of gaming,” the company said.

The launchpad looks to identify and support emerging talent with a focus on under-represented founding teams who can bring “unique perspectives” and “creativity” to the industry.

Defy the Odds aims to connect innovators with mentors, investors and partners to help usher in a new breed of successful products and services.

Kehn, whose career experience includes co-founding the All-in Diversity Project, said: “The gaming industry is at a pivotal moment, where innovation is more critical than ever.

“We see incredible potential in founders who bring new energy and ideas to the space but need the social capital and support on navigating the nuances of the sector.”

Schneider, who has worked at SBC, said that by supporting a “diverse range of founders” through the Defy the Odds network, “we will bridge innovation with opportunity and push the boundaries of what’s possible in this industry.”

Smith, who was the CEO of Pinnacle Sports, said: “In an industry that’s constantly evolving, understanding the trajectory of where gaming is headed is crucial.”
