Coral Interactive has been reprimanded by the Advertising Standards Authority over a complaint that three of its adverts appealed to under-18s.

Adverts for Rainbow Riches, Fishin’ Frenzy and Lucky Wizard, shown on February 20, featured animations including a rainbow, pot of gold and leprechaun, images of fish swimming in the ocean and a wizard, respectively.

Coral’s defence ran that Rainbow Riches was unlikely to appeal more to children than adults, that amendments had been made to the Fishin’ Frenzy title to reduce its possible appeal to minors and that the wizard in Lucky Wizard was understated in its styling.

However, the ASA upheld the complaint in all three cases, stating: “Because we considered ads (a), (b) and (c) featured animated images that were likely to be of particular appeal to under-18s and were marketing gambling products, we concluded that they breached the CAP Code.”

As a result of the ruling, the adverts must not appeal again in their current form, while Coral Interactive has been told to ensure future ads do not hold particular appeal for under-18s.

In a separate ruling, betting tipster service Isiris Racing Services was told not to repeat adverts from October 12 last year in the Racing Post detailing a “successful return on over 90%” of bets for members.

Isiris provided a spreadsheet backing its claims, but the ASA said: “The ad must not appear again in its current form. We told Isiris Racing Services not to claim success rates for their bets, or that their bets were proofed to demonstrate their genuineness, unless they held adequate evidence to substantiate such claims.”
