Existing legislation has struggled to keep up with the rapidly evolving illegal internet gambling and betting industry in China.

The ministry said that service providers should strengthen their monitoring of information related to online football gambling and “remove such information in a timely manner.”

The notice also said that the supervision of third-party payment platforms should be tightened to cut off the flow of funds for online football wagering.
