MGM has moved quickly to establish its place in the growing sports betting market now that the floodgates are opening in North America. Butera will offer strategic leadership on the development of interactive gaming for the company, heading its initiatives in both sports betting and skill-based gaming.

He will concentrate initially on sports betting as MGM expands its operations in that field in the new US market following the repeal of the federal ban on sports wagering.

With more than 25 years’ experience in finance and hospitality, Butera was previously commissioner of the Arena Football League, president and CEO at Foxwoods Resort and Casino, Tropicana Entertainment and COO at Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino Resort.

Corey Sanders, COO for MGM, commented: "As an industry leader in sports betting and cutting-edge interactive gaming offerings, MGM Resorts is well positioned to bring our decades of experience and well-earned reputation to new markets throughout the country. Scott will play a key role as we continue to expand nationwide."

MGM is an international entertainment company with 28 hotels. This year it has opened the Cotai in Macau and the first Bellagio-branded hotel in Shanghai. It is developing MGM Springfield in Massachusetts.
