Business is booming at bet365, the Stoke-based British bookmaker, with the online operator’s revenues, earnings and amounts wagered all increasing by more than a third in the year to March 30, 2014,

Stoke City, owned by bet365

The company, the biggest private employer in Stoke, recorded operating profit of £212m for the year, with strong growth in mobile helping the amounts wagered to increase by 36 per cent.

Turnover was up 38 per cent to £1.37bn for the financial year, £1.28bn of which was generated by betting and gaming.

Just £86.7m was earned through English Premier League club Stoke City, of which bet365 is the sole owner. Profits allow for the £31m loss the bookmaker accrued through its ownership of Stoke City.

The company’s workforce also increased dramatically in the year to more than 2,500, a rise of nearly a fifth.
