The Australian Authorities are working with the FBI in the US to investigate unregulated online casino sites.

Under Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act, companies are prohibited from providing interactive gambling services to customers in Australia. However, according to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, around 700,000 Australians use online casino sites.

Now the Federal Police are investigating the dealings of companies that process transactions amounting to around AUS$1bn (£640m) a year from Australian players - many of which are carried out through Australian bank accounts.

Senator Nick Xenophon, an anti-gambling campaigner, told the newspaper it is "very disturbing" that the law is not being enforced.
