In a public letter, Hasse Lord Skarplöth, CEO of Swedish operator group ATG, has expressed his thanks to all who got involved in the matter of Sweden’s proposed gambling tax increase.

ATG, which specialises in racetracks and horseracing, has urged the Swedish government to only rase taxes for the online gaming sector rather than a wide-reaching gambling tax hike.

“A tax increase of four percentage points (from 18 to 22 per cent) may seem undramatic to the uninitiated. But converted into kroner and ören, it would mean a reduced contribution of 200 million kroner from ATG to the horse industry, every year,” he said.

“A loss that for the individual horse owner can mean the difference between being able to continue running their horse business. And to be forced to shut down.

“The support for the issue, mainly manifested in submitting referral responses, has been far beyond what I could have hoped for in my wildest imagination. So to all of you who got involved, I want to say a big and heartfelt thank you.”
