Argentina is planning to impose an increase of 150 per cent in online gambling tax.

Argentina

The country’s Chamber of Deputies has approved a national budget that includes a rise from two per cent to five per cent in the current rates in 2021, reports Yogonet.

The vote was passed by 139 to 20 with 83 abstaining. The tax will be levied on any betting transaction made online, while it will rise to 10 per cent for those operators based in countries with low or non-existent tax rates.

The tax hike now has to get through the upper house, the Senate. If it is successful and introduced then 95 per cent of the money raised would go to the provinces with the remainder invested in technological innovations by the Argentine state telecommunications company Arsat.
