888 has appointed former Fortuna Entertainment Group chief Per Widerström as its new CEO.

Widerström, who will begin his role on October 16, has held senior roles across other online gaming businesses from 2006 onwards.

He will join following the departure of Itai Pazner earlier this year.

Lord Mendelsohn will subsequently return to the role of non-executive chair.

Widerström said 888 is “exceptionally well positioned to become a clear global industry leader” amid a “clear and attractive opportunity” ahead of it.

Lord Mendelsohn said the 888 board agreed that Widerström was the “clear standout candidate” for the CEO role as the group looks to “become a much stronger international multi-brand operator.”

“Per not only understands the power and exciting potential of the business, but the board is also very pleased with his strong record and reputation on governance and compliance,” Lord Mendelsohn added.
