Having been so far unsuccessful in securing a licence to offer online gambling in the US state of New Jersey, PokerStars – the world’s largest online poker site – has said it will continue to seek new opportunities in the US.

A blog post penned by PokerStars' head of corporate communications, Eric Hollreiser, also criticised the recent closure of the Atlantic Club casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Hollreiser called it an “avoidable” closure and cited the company’s failed bid to take over the ailing venue as a missed opportunity to save the casino.

The post blames the Atlantic Club’s former owners for the closure: “PokerStars does not share the vulture-like management practices that led to the coming job losses and disappointment of thousands of people in New Jersey with the closure of the Atlantic Club,” wrote Hollreiser.

“Instead, PokerStars will continue to pursue our goals and remain confident that we will have a strong presence and positive economic impact in the American market in 2014, whether that is in New Jersey or another state seeking the benefits of being home to a world-class online gaming company.”
