What has made the US such an economic powerhouse, asks Ian Donegan?
Here is a deep-seated notion in the stateside mindset that informs much of what is associated with the country - that is the belief that anything is achievable if you just work hard enough. This becomes evident from even the shortest conversation with an American and is an idea that celebrities like rapper Eminem firmly believe. “If people take anything from my music, it should be motivation to know that anything is possible as long as you keep working at it and don’t back down.” Obviously, this is not always the case. Sometimes circumstances can trump even the greatest efforts, but nevertheless this reach-for-the-stars attitude has led to some of the industry’s best selling products, most vibrant markets and (at different points in history) the world’s strongest economy. It also explains why so many leading names, no matter how internationally facing, find their beginnings in the US.
