Legoland owner Merlin Entertainments saw slightly increased revenues in the year to September 5, despite a major accident at its UK Alton Towers theme park and a reduction in visitors through wet weather.

The company managed a 2.2 per cent increase in group revenues on the 36-week year with a slight improvement in sales. The group owns the Legoland parks in several countries, plus Alton Towers, and the Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park locations.

The Asian business performed well except that in Hong Kong, hit by restrictions on travel from China. The profits for the group for the entire year is expected to be within the range £40m-£50m, well down on the £87m of last year.

A major new non-roller coaster attraction is due to be open at Alton Towers in 2016 which, it is hoped, will spur footfall.
