Amusement and entertainment venues in Australia’s second most populous state went into a seven-day lockdown today.

Victoria imposed the restriction after an outbreak of Covid-19 in its capital, Melbourne. Twenty-six new cases have been reported and 150 locations across the city were identified where people may have been exposed to the virus.
Last year a devastating second wave locked down the state and there are concerns that the current infection may be a repeat. While the new infections are comparatively small, the situation may be compounded by the large number of primary and secondary contacts and there has been great criticism of the slow rate of vaccination in the country.
