A plan for a vast tourism project on uninhabited and deserted low-lying islands in the Red Sea has been voiced by Saudi Arabia.

More than 50 of the natural islands would be involved in the building of resorts, said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The islands are encompassed within a 30,000sq.km area between the cities of Umluj and Al-Wajh and the project would bring in major international hotel operators, planning to encourage tourists with interest in culture, history and nature. A World Heritage Site, the ruins of Madain Saleh will form part of the project.
The plan will be put into effect late in 2019 with the first phase ready by the end of 2022 with an airport, port and luxury accommodation being built by that time.
