Next week’s IAAPA Expo 2019 will see Intercard debut its iReader Impulse, a versatile hybrid card reader that is the first of its kind in the amusement industry.

The new product accepts credit cards as well as stored-value playcards, which allows operators to leverage the burgeoning consumer use of credit cards for small transactions like gameplay.

The company has revealed that in testing at arcades, the iReader Impulse has increased overall game revenue by as much as 20 per cent. Intercard says it is the first reader to help proprietors increase revenues by capturing the business of impulse players who just want to play a few games.

Impulse players have traditionally used cash but as FECs increasingly move from coin-op to cashless technology in some markets, the new product caters accordingly. The iReader Impulse strives to give such customers the same ease-of-use with no apps to download beforehand and no need to set up a mobile wallet on their devices.

Intercard says it has had multiple requests from operators who report that their customers have been asking for this type of reader for years. The issue hasn’t been addressed previously because of the financial industry's stringent security standards for credit cards and the complexity of the required software. Intercard has managed to provide a solution by employing a dedicated team of software engineers who worked on the project for a year.

“We think the ability to use credit cards right at the reader will revolutionise our industry, allowing proprietors to capture a larger share of impulse play,” said Scott Sherrod, CEO of Intercard. “The iReader Impulse is a huge leap forward in game payment because it gives impulse players a quick and easy way to pay while giving proprietors all the benefits of cashless technology.”

Visitors to booth 2206 at IAAPA will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the new reader, where Intercard will be represented by CEO Scott Sherrod and the entire US and international sales teams plus technical experts.

While at the booth, AMOA members will also be able to take advantage of a special year-end deal that will start on the first day of the show. Any member who purchases a new Intercard cashless technology system for a new location between the start of the IAAPA Expo 2019 and December 31, 2019 will receive at no charge their choice of either 10,000 mag stripe cards (a US$1400 value) or 5,000 RFID cards (a $1550 value)

Members pays shipping costs and customs charges, if any. Other restrictions may apply; ask an Intercard representative for details.
