The amusement park industry in India is worth €7bn and is still in a period of growth, said Archana Browne, vice president of sales and marketing and International Recreation Parks, in a recent interview published in an Indian national newspaper.

Browne’s company has the Worlds of Wonder park in Delhi, set up in 2007 and which covers 147 acres of land, including one of the biggest shopping malls in India. Worlds of Wonder has 20 major rides in two zones, both indoor and outside. It has an average footfall of 1,500 on weekdays, doubling at weekends.

Browne said that the parks industry in India, both in its outdoor and indoor format, is helping to package tourism products better throughout the country. ”The trend of spending long weekends and quality time with family and friends has been growing swiftly in the past few years.”

She also pointed out that there is a huge untapped potential in the amusement industry in India. “There is a handful of amusement outlets in the country and seeing the success they enjoy, industry analysts have revealed that in the coming years there will be around 200 more amusement locations opening. By 2020 the industry will grow by almost 100 per cent.”
